Charles Allen earns the unanimous endorsement of both the D.C. Police Union, Fraternal Order of Police, and the D.C. Fire Fighters Association Local 36.
“Charles Allen is a dedicated public servant, a supporter of law enforcement, and a welcome voice on governmental reform and ethics. If the District government is going to move past the seemingly unending cycle of public corruption and mismanagement – it is going to take people like Charles Allen to do it,” stated Chairman-elect of the D.C. Police Union, Delroy Burton.
Burton added, "We are backing Charles Allen because he has demonstrated, through his work at the Council, a commitment to public safety, a commitment to the District, and commitment to doing things the right way. Having someone who understands how the law works and how it can help keep residents safe is important for Ward 6 and everyone else in the District.”
“Charles Allen has a clear and consistent record on public safety issues,” added Ed Smith, president of the DC Fire Fighters Association.
In their endorsements, both organizations noted that Charles Allen, the former chief of staff to Tommy Wells, brings a well established history and knowledge of public safety issues. He has worked with police and fire leaders, including the D.C. Police Union and Fire Fighters Association on issues ranging from police and fire response, reducing crime, career retention, expanded oversight, and cost controls.
Upon receiving the endorsements, Charles Allen stated: “For several years, I've stood with the men and women of the Metropolitan Police Department and Fire & EMS to tackle tough reforms, reduce neighborhood crime, and improve public safety. Their public service and selfless acts keep our community safe and our city growing stronger. I am incredibly proud to have them stand with me as we work together for a Ward 6 -- and a city -- that everyone can always call home.”
The D.C. Police Union represents the more than 3,600 police officers, detectives, and sergeants of the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department. The D.C. Fire Fighters Association represents over 1,800 sworn members who provide fire, rescue, and EMS services to the residents of the District of Columbia.
The public safety endorsements from police and fire adds to the growing list of endorsements of Charles Allen for Ward 6 Councilmember, including Councilmembers Tommy Wells and Sharon Ambrose, Ward 6 Board of Education members Monica Warren-Jones and Lisa Raymond, Service Employees International Union, DC for Democracy, DC Realtors Association, DC Chapter of the National Organization for Women, and many more.
