CREATING AND PRESERVING AFFORDABLE HOUSING

Ward 6 is leading the way on affordable housing citywide with more than 1,500 affordable homes created in the last three years, and more than 2,100 affordable homes on the way -- many of them family-sized 2 or 3-bedroom units. That’s more than any other ward in our city, but it’s also not enough, and making affordable housing a continued priority is one of the reasons I am running for re-election Read More...

PUBLIC EDUCATION WE CAN BELIEVE IN

As a member of the Council’s Committee on Education, I have worked to ensure that every child has a high quality, by-right, neighborhood public school. In Ward 6, neighborhood elementary schools are growing and thriving, but work remains to make sure parents see the full path of quality public school education – from pre-K through high school graduation. View as a PDF.

GOOD GOVERNMENT AND ETHICS

At a time when many states are putting up new barriers to keep voters from exercising their rights, I am committed to ensuring that the District leads the nation on fair elections, expanding voter access, and strict campaign finance reforms. I believe more work is needed to rebuild trust in our local government, and as chair of the committee with oversight of our elections and ethics agencies, I have a track record of success Read More...

WORKING FOR A SAFE AND JUST CITY

As the Chair of the Council’s Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety, my top priority is to ensure that the District is a safe and just city for all of its residents. Feeling safe in our neighborhoods requires all of us working together to build strong communities Read More...

TAKING CARE OF EVERY NEIGHBOR: HEALTH CARE & HUMAN SERVICES

In my time as Councilmember, I have led on efforts related to improving health care for our residents and adopting a better system of services for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. From defending access to healthcare and working to reduce maternal mortality to requiring full-time nurses in our public schools, I will continue to be a champion for the health and well-being of our residents Read More...

SUPPORTING SMALL BUSINESSES & ENTREPRENEURS

Our local economy and our neighborhoods depend on a thriving  small business community. From creating jobs, to sponsoring our Little League teams, to supporting walkable communities, our small businesses build the character of our neighborhoods, activate our  streets, and pour their profits back into employing nearby residents and supporting other small businesses Read More...

WORKING TOWARD A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

I want my children to grow up in a District of Columbia where they can breathe clean air and, maybe one day, swim in a clean Anacostia River. A sustainable environment means better health, good jobs, and a growing economy for everyone. We must ensure that the District leads on policy that will increase renewable energy use and decrease carbon emissions, and in a way that will create good jobs for District residents, building the renewable energy infrastructure of the future right here in the District. I’m proud to be leading the District to pick up where the federal government has abdicated its responsibilities to protect our environment Read More...

TRANSPORTATION FOR ALL USERS

To grow the District and the region in a sustainable manner that extends well beyond moving people around by car, we need policies, laws, and leadership to rethink how our city is built, and to ensure that our ideals are reflected in the choices we make.

My experiences as a frequent bus and rail rider, as well as a regular bicyclist, help inform my efforts. From better public transit options to better bike infrastructure, I have led on transportation initiatives in DC and the region Read More...

SUPPORTING OUR WORKING FAMILIES

As the father of two young children, I know that it’s expensive to raise a family, and that the District -- including Ward 6 -- experiences significant economic inequality, making it that much harder for many families to make ends meet. I have fought to ensure District workers are paid a fair wage, have important protections like paid sick and family leave, and can access high quality care for their children Read More...
