Diverse Coalition Announces Key Endorsements for Charles Allen

Greater Greater Washington and DC Chamber of Commerce Endorse; SmokeFreeDC Ranks High

Charles Allen for Ward 6 announced several major endorsements from neighborhood leaders and city organizations, as well as rankings this week highlighting his broad and diverse support across Ward 6.

Earlier this week, Greater Greater Washington – DC’s premier smart growth and livability advocate – gave a full-throated endorsement:

“Charles Allen has the experience and knowledge required to be a fantastic Councilmember. He's a passionate supporter of smart growth, streetcars, livable streets, and more. Charles Allen is not simply the better of two alternatives; he is a very strong candidate and a good choice for Ward 6.”

On Wednesday, SmokeFreeDC released their candidate rankings on public health and safety for DC workers and families. Charles Allen earned a grade of an A, while his opponent scored an F.

“A few candidates stood out as fully grasping the fact that secondhand smoke is a health hazard, and that the right of nonsmokers to breathe clean air should trump a smoker’s desire to light up. [Charles Allen] aced the questionnaire.”

On Friday, the DC Chamber of Commerce announced its endorsement of Charles Allen in the Ward 6 contest.

“Charles Allen’s energy, leadership and fresh perspective on the issues impacting the District make him an ideal candidate for the Council. He has tremendous vision and passion for Ward 6 and the entire city. We share a common interest with Charles on several issues that impact our businesses and the community as a whole, and look forward to working with him to continue the economic growth of the District. Charles is a rising star and would be the ideal Ward 6 representative on the DC Council.”

Also on Friday, neighborhood leader and ANC 6B Chair Brian Flahaven announced his support:

"In my role as an ANC commissioner, I've found Charles to be a true ally and friend. I feel that Charles is best positioned to represent our ward and our neighborhood. He's already been a forceful advocate for Hill East and knows our issues inside and out. I'm proud to support him."

“Endorsements like these highlight the strong vision I have for our communities and my ability to build diverse coalitions to get the job done. I know Ward 6 neighborhoods block-by-block like no one else. With support from the Sierra Club and DC for Democracy, to the DC Chamber of Commerce and Police Union, these endorsements show our winning coalition for Ward 6,” stated Charles Allen.

The endorsements this week adds to the growing list of endorsements supporting Charles Allen for Ward 6 Councilmember, including Councilmembers Tommy Wells, David Grosso, and Sharon Ambrose, Ward 6 elected education leaders Monica Warren-Jones and Lisa Raymond, Service Employees International Union, DC Police Union, DC Fire Fighters Association, DC for Democracy, DC Association of Realtors, DC Chapter of the National Organization for Women, DC Sierra Club, Greater Greater Washington, DC Chamber of Commerce, DC League of Humane Voters, and many more.
